About

A team built around the people we support.

MPOT has grown over the years from a single discipline into a full multidisciplinary allied health team. Here's our story.

Our Story

MPOT was founded in 1997 by Marilyn Pattison AO (MP), who has dedicated more than 50 years to the occupational therapy profession. Since its inception, MPOT has established itself as one of South Australia's leading providers of community rehabilitation and services for people with serious and complex injuries.

What began as a specialist occupational therapy practice has evolved into a multidisciplinary allied health organisation, supporting individuals and communities across metropolitan and regional South Australia. As the needs of our clients have changed, so too have our services, expanding our team and expertise to provide coordinated, evidence-based care through one trusted provider.

As demand for our specialised rehabilitation and medico-legal services increased, MPOT became an incorporated company in 2004. This marked a significant milestone in our journey and laid the foundation for the organisation we are today.

Marilyn has been instrumental in shaping both MPOT and the occupational therapy profession. An internationally recognised Occupational Therapist, she has held leadership positions within State and National Occupational Therapy Associations and served as President of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT). Her commitment to clinical excellence, evidence-based practice and innovation established MPOT's reputation as a trusted provider delivering exceptional outcomes for clients.

In 2018, MPOT became part of Torrens Health, a leading provider of clinical, community and allied health services across Australia. Joining the Torrens Health group has enabled MPOT to accelerate its growth while remaining true to the values on which the organisation was founded. Through this partnership, we have expanded our multidisciplinary services, strengthened our clinical governance, invested in our people and technology, and increased our capacity to deliver high-quality care to more individuals, families and communities throughout South Australia.

Today, MPOT is recognised as one of South Australia's leading community-based allied health providers. Our multidisciplinary team includes Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists, Speech Pathologists and Specialist Support Coordinators who work collaboratively to support people living with injury, disability, neurological conditions, chronic health conditions and complex support needs.

We provide services across a broad range of funding schemes, including the NDIS, Return to Work SA, CTP, Support at Home, Medicare, DVA, private health and employer-funded programs. Beyond individual client care, we partner with businesses and organisations to deliver workplace rehabilitation, injury management, ergonomic assessments, pre-employment assessments and workplace risk management solutions that promote safer, healthier and more productive workplaces.

While our organisation has continued to evolve over more than 25 years, our purpose has remained unchanged. We believe every person deserves to be treated with respect, compassion and professionalism. By taking the time to understand each individual's goals and circumstances, we develop practical, person-centred solutions that empower people to maximise their independence, participation and quality of life.
